Re: John Digweed - Choice: A Collection Of Classics

As a DJ it is a very difficult task to sustain both musical diversity and international success. Success can be restrictive in ways that are not so apparent. A DJ's fan base can have very weighty expectations... invisible limits placed on diversity and the potential creativity that distinct music encourages. A dedicated fan-base comes to expect 'more of the same' from their hero and sometimes very little else. The mark of a great DJ is that they can deliver to those limiting expectations while also transcending them in a uniquely creative and vibrant way.
So true. Great write up!
I'm really looking forward to this. I love discovering the early influences of DJs. Its usually so varied.
I hope it's better than the Tenaglia mix. I did not like that one. It sounded not like danny at all. Or at least any of the mixes i've heard from the man,
Hopefully there might be a Gurilla record in there somewhere.
I think Diggs has been kickin Sasha for a couple of years now. I guess it depends on what people like. but isnt Tiesto the #1 ranked dj right now? I've never heard Sasha come close to the Digweed sound when he chooses to be evil. A long time ago, it was different. but its now 2005. cant wait for the 3-16 Mayan show. he's always super evil at the Mayan.
Is it just me or is Digweed just kicking Sasha's ass lately???
Very difficult to make that judgement. Sasha definitely seemed to lose some of his verve, but he has taken that as a prompt to move on and experiment with new things, groundbreaking things. Meanwhile Diggers has kept it real for the prog fans and is continuing to give us what we need. Different approaches. What's better, what's worse? We'll each have our own opinions. As for me, I'm glad there are two sick super star DJs doing their own thing, as long as they both keep laying it down.

NOT always! were you at the last Mayan show? He was evil for all of 6 minutes. He's been playing anything but evil music as of late. I saw him 7 times last year and I think he was only evil 40% of the time.
