Above & Beyond's “Sun & Moon,” the lead single from their upcoming Group Therapy album, combines bittersweet lyrics with the uplifting electronic melodies that the UK-based DJ/production trio is internationally famous for. Embodying romance, escapism and real life emotion, the video is a cleverly styled twist on the classic break-up narrative and offers a sense of release every bit as emphatic as the song itself.
Drawing aesthetic cues from the Northern Soul era, the “Sun & Moon” video makes a direct link between the legendary 70s dance music scene and Above & Beyond's unique take on modern club culture. Styled perfectly with a tartan Harrington jacket and a crisp shirt emblazoned with an Above & Beyond “Sun & Moon” Northern Soul badge, the lead male is seen re-living the relationship and the final breakdown through a series of emotive flash back scenes and some lonesome, drink and music-fuelled longing. With the song finding its release through its emphatic, riff-based breakdown, the male recognizes the song and finds his own peace of mind the only way he knows - by dancing. Through a set of skillfully twisted and visually arresting dance moves straight out of the Northern soul era, where sad love songs like “Sun & Moon” fueled a generation of late night dancers lost in lyrics, he finds freedom in the moment - to the surprise and dismay of the other people in the bar.
The video embodies Above & Beyond’s talent for finding every possible platform to bring their emotional trance sound to enthusiastic audiences the world over, with sold out shows, instant classics, and their beloved Trance Around the World radio show with over 30 million listeners each week. The group has racked up countless accolades including Essential Mix of the Year, a New Year’s performance to over 1 million people, as well as prolific production and remix work for artists both mainstream and underground. Above & Beyond’s highly anticipated second artist album Group Therapy will be out May 2011, with the lead single “Sun & Moon” out March 21st on Ultra Music. They will also be presenting their annual Anjunabeats in Miami party, featuring a stellar lineup of Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep artists, at Ice Palace on Thursday, March 24th. Group Therapy will be supported by an extended North American tour in May and June with dates to be announced.
