This week’s mix harnesses some international bass and mutated house flavours courtesy of Diamond Bass, the latest addition to Buraka Som Sistema’s Enchufada label, which has quickly broken out of its Portugese home and unleashed its delightful heaviness on the wider world.
Like Buraka, Diamond Bass, aka Joel Ildefonso, blends infectious rhythmical frameworks, afro-beat, bassline and kuduro, but with a stronger focus on using these elements in a house context. As such, Ildefonso’s tracks have been doing the rounds in clubs across the globe over the last year, with predictably successful results.
His Clash mix contains a wealth of names from the current hot crop of UK bass producers (occasional Enchufada labelmate and one half of Deep Teknologi, T.Williams, and remixes from Night Slugs labelheads L-Vis 1990 and Bok Bok), as well as fellow countrymen J-WOW and Makongo, and a few from even further afield – trippy new Canadian producer Egyptrixx.
‘Se Prepara’, the debut EP from Diamond Bass, is out now on Enchufada.
