    RAM for producing

my computer seemed to be running great with what it had, but yester day it crapped out on me. i found it was there was a problem with the RAM. i dont know if i overloaded it or what?? i went to turn it on and all i got was a flashing light so my question is what is sufficient so this wont happen again.

    i have Mac G5 OS 10.2.8
    dual 2.0 ghz processors
    did have 512 ram
    i will be using:
    Logic Pro 6
    Reason (sometimes in rewire)
    various vsts

i was going to buy 2 512 DIMM sticks. but i want to make sure a GIG is enough thanks

I think you may have to post over there as I don't think they're able to move threads from board-to-board. I could be wrong though. There are a ton of geeks over there that would slobber all over their new-fangled hydro-electric, solar backup powered, keyless keyboards, at the chance to help you out with your RAM question.

Nice Mac! I think that you need a LOT more ram. I have a lowly G4 and I have a gig of ram. Mine never craps out! You can also go to the Mac forums in the apple site. I hope this helped.

With what you are doing, 1 Gig will probably be enough, but two Gig wouldn't hurt. The fact that its duel processor means it can bennefit from more RAM. If it was 1 processor, 1 gig would be enough. If you have the money, I say get 2 gig

Exactly, thats what I was going to suggest you do if your low on funds. Do you know how many DIMM slots it has, is it 3 or 4? If its 4 you can get 2x512 MB now and 2 later, if its 3 make sure you buy 1x1 Gig DIMM and one later.

Also, try and remember the exact RAM you get, so you can get the same thing later. You shouldn't mix and match, memory timings differ quite a bit from manufacturer to manufacturer

i have 4 pairs of slots. so i was going to start with 2x512, so that if i would keep going i could get up to 4gigs. instead of stuffin loads of 256 in there yea?? btw any brand better than others??

Well since you are on a budget, I would stick with Corsair or Crucial. Great RAM, good price. Plus, you don't need to spend more for faster memory timings or better voltage capability since you can't fiddle with those numbers on a MAC any way.

I'd get some Corsair Value or Crucial from Newegg.com

all you need is beanz. that is the most ram you can get out of anything.

Yeah crucial has mac compatible memory, those macs have a good chance of not even working with memory with fast timings since apple made some sort of safeguard in the bios so you'd probably need CL3 memory, they did that since they want to guarantee stability or at least that's what i heard, i think it's a scam to make you buy overpriced memory from them

I'm not sure if that will work since it's rated for CL2.5, i wouldn't take the risk and go for crucial since they guarantee it will work and i think you need pc3200 ram.

How many beeps does your mac make after it boots? The solution may not require adding more memory... may just need to replace existing... but more never hurts
