    Re: Libya

I guess quoting another response in this thread that was directed to me would be apt at this point no?

I think he gets a pass since he doesn't troll and say nonsensical shit 24/7. Over. And over. And over. And over.

well for one, if I'm not allowed on the board, I won't pay for the server so we won't we be having this conversation

But jokes aside, I really feel the need to say this because clearly, not only is the conflict in Libya being clearly mis-understood, its turning personal for apparently bizarre reasons.

the only reason I said what I did earlier in this thread is because I genuinely genuinely feel for innocent people dying. I am emotional, I'm emphatic and I'd help a total stranger out if I was certain the need was genuine. People who know me personally know how little I care for money, power or wealth, and LEAST of all, politics or the US's control over anything else in the world. Being passive is in my genes and culture (on the macro end of things).

So when I say someone needs to get in there and stop the bloodshed of the innocent, and that someone - *hint* *hint* the US - because
            A) they have the means and courage to do it - be it right or wrong and
            B) there hasn't been any other country on the planet (in recent times) that has come to the (armed) aid of another country (whatever the reasons may be),

then, not only is it downright ridiculous to presume that I (me personally) am for armed conflict and want the US to get involved so that the US can benefit from it, but it's even worse that no one sees what Ghadaffi is doing is similar to the accusations people levy on the US (i.e. milked the shit out of a/the nation for personal gain) and what is downright disastrous is that I haven't seen a single comment about what this cunt has done and continues to do, which is far far WORSE because he's doing it to his own people so he can continue to amass all his wealth.

People talk about the West, about the US, Britain, etc. but no one seems to care that an initially bloodless uprising was turned bloody when bullets and rockets were being fired into innocent people who are now turning into an armed militia to free themselves.

And the best I have seen so far as a reason for someone not going into Libya to help these people out is a history lesson on US's lousy foreign policy and decisions of the past.

            Seriously?

              ^well said.

              especially this:

A lot of people on this forum have this hatred for everything that is USA (cue chunky, dig72 et all WMDs IRAQ BUSH) that blinds them from realizing what was actually happening over there before the bullets started to fly, like Quadaffi is this nice fella we all should want to go have tea and scones with and chat about soccer and good times and all the great stuff he's doing for his people. I know the UN/USA has done a lot of questionable imperialistic things in the past, but for once I think all the allies got this one right.

                Re: Libya

                just for the record

                - Ghadaffi has categorically ensured local businesses NOT owned / controlled by him do NOT become prosperous because it isn't difficult for money to buy mercenaries in that part of the world, which means Ghadaffi has the possibility of an armed opposition and potential uprising at large
                - +90% (some accounts peg it at 98%) of wealth generated by Libya comes from businesses directly / indirectly associated with the oil exports from the country, ALL of which is controlled by Ghadafi
                - I recommend you go to go onto some of the websites (like liveleak) and see how unarmed people were getting killed straight from the get-go.

And now you tell me it isn't worth it for ANYONE to go in and help those guys out. Shit I heard an interview on NPR where they managed to get a phone conversation with an english speaking resident in Libya who was locked up in her Apartment with her family. She (and her entire family) were ready to die to get this guy out of power and her sister and the sister's family was returning to Libya to join in the liberation efforts and were ready to sacrifice the entire family's life in the process.

If seemingly simple/regular people like this are ready to die for freedom, shouldn't SOMEONE who can deliver it to them be involved? JUST SO they have a chance to experience it?

The standard conspiracy theorist black or white view is strong here I sense. Libya is a total different situation than Iraq you might think yes?

so what would you rather prefer? Let Libyan's die without a fighting chance at the hands of their moronoic leader? I want to know what you feel about how you would rescue those who you think deserve a chance?

What do you want me to say? I am hearing the same rhetoric as Iraq.. They want us there to help.. we will be viewed as liberators.. we must help people fighting for freedom.. they are just begging - bomb us, bomb us please

How do you guys STILL buy this shit?? They want Libya's oil just like Iraq. Why isn't NATO helping stop the killings in the Ivory Coast? or Sudan?

Revolutions must be done by the country internally. That is the only way. Yes many will die fighting and it's sad but having NATO come in isn't going to solve their problems.
