Clash Music - ClashMusic Dj Mix Podcast - Proxy

If any of you woke this morning with an inexplicable feeling of joy and a sense that today was an incredibly special day, give yourself a pat on the back. Yes, friends, today marks the 100th Clashmusic.com DJ podcast mix – a glorious day for us all – and to celebrate in style, we’ve got a monster of a mix. What better way to turn 100 and keep things fresh than with the very artist we picked at the beginning of the year as our number one producer to watch during 2011: Proxy.

Without sounding too mysterious, there is fairly little known about this young Russian techno maverick. He was allegedly inspired by seeing Prodigy rip it up in Moscow, signed to Tiga’s Turbo Recordings in a bizarre but fruitful cloak of deceit and is a huge studio geek. Apart from that, all you need to know is that Proxy produces massive, dirty techno and chunky electro, tinged with an unmistakable Russian industrial aura. Check the obscenely huge kick of ‘Vibrate’ or the blistering warble of ‘Raven’ for a taste of what he’s capable of.

Fittingly, Proxy’s Clashmusic mix is also teeming with unapologetically jagged electro, such as the air-raid synths of Mustard Pimp’s ‘Wake Up Call’ remix, or Djedjotronic’s rework of Chromeo’s ‘Hot Mess’. He also explores some enticing aspects of the contemporary US scene, via the booty-house of Tony Senghore’s ‘If You Came Here’ and Light Year’s superb ghetto-tech anthem ‘5 Girls’.

Suitably dirtied-up remixes of Carte Blanche, The Subs and Joey Beltram also make an appearance, as does a rhythmical rework of Proxy’s own ‘Raven’, bringing things to a close. All in all, an uncompromising mix with bags of attitude, much like its creator. Not one to be ignored.

Proxy’s debut album will be released this year, along with a compilation of all his remixes. He will also be playing further UK and European live dates.

Finally – once again – a very happy 100th birthday to us, from us. And may there be many more minutes of electronic goodness to keep us occupied and you fine people entertained.
