A quickie computer system reinstall question....

Looks like I have to reinstall my complete system cause my Windows Update is fried. - like I give a shit about their critical updates but anyway.... I tried everything. Quick question- I know that a system reinstall essentially wipes everything, but if I have a seperate "E" drive 80 gb Western Digital that is used mostly for music , can I just put all my valuable stuff i.e. music, movies, docs and programs on the "E" drive and do the reistall or will the reinstall wipe out both the "C" and "E" drive. I don't really feel like moving 60 gb of music let alone my valuable programs onto a million cdr's. I believe the "E" drive is set up as slave.

    thanks kind folks!!!

Copy your data to E, disconnect it, then reinstall Windows on C. Then you won't have any issues. But, no you should have any issues if you format C...it won't affect E.

If it's a 'slave' then it should be a different hard drive.

Therefore the data on the slave won't be affected by the OS re-install on your C:\.

If the E:\ is just a partition of one hard drive then yes - a re-install of the OS could well wipe out that data if you are not careful.

It doesn't matter if your E drive is installed as a Slave drive or not. If you reinstall windows only the C drive will be affected (or whatever drive you are going to install it on) Windows will only put some files on the E drive which are needed if you want to run System Recovery which is enabled by default.
