    Video Interview with Videovoce MUTEKMAG009

Operating around the edges of new music and new media, Laurel MacDonald has released a number of albums that feature her lilting, otherworldly vocal experiments and lush, complex arrangements. A decade ago, her music was re-mixed by world and new music luminaries Bill Laswell and John Oswald, while critic and musician David Toop curated a vocal compilation she appeared on. Her singing and vocal work has been featured in many film, television, theatre and dance productions. Recently, she was the arranger and sound recording artist for John Oswald’s “qui”, an installation for a multi-lingual choir of 29 voices diffused from 29 speakers, on permanent exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. She’s become increasingly involved in mounting her own video and sound instillation works, including a premiere for the Luminato festival in 2009. Interview and footage shot during MUTEK 2010 in Montreal. Interviewer: Lucinda Catchlove Camera, Sound, Editing: Steven Valin Production Coordinator: Erin Whittaker Photo by Valérian Mazataud
