Something very fresh for you all this week, as ridiculously young and ridiculously talented hyped Seattle duo Beat Connection supply the exclusive tones of the DJ podcast.
Favouring a lush, Talking Heads-do-disco sound in their own productions, Beat Connection – the debut signing to Moshi Moshi Records imprint Tender Age – here flex their dancier chops, with formidable results. Kicking off with a Paperclip People remix of The Avalanches (remember them?), Beat Connection’s mix works its way through killer electro and highbrow club sounds, in amongst some playful beat tomfoolery and an abundance of fine grooves.
Featured tracks include a rework of Simian Mobile Disco’s ‘Cruel Intentions’ by acid house luminary DJ Pierre (which melts into a stomper when you least expect it), Four Tet’s haunting ‘Love Cry’, the Adele remix by remixer-of-the-moment Jamie xx and even a bit of Jacko and Serge Gainsbourg to keep things interesting.
A mature mix from a young act to watch, whose own blend of classic and ultra-modern is mirrored perfectly here.
‘Surf Noir’, a mini-album by Beat Connection, is released on April 11.
