    So Windows 8 then...

Anybody know if the OEM previews that have been handed out to PC manufacturers have found their way to torrent sites then?
Would be interesting to try this out on a spare drive.

Not sure if it's that far into development? Apparently they're trialling the "ribbon interface" that is used in the Office suite. So, this would be used for general navigation and functions.

They need to either make that ribbon vertical or get manufacturers to stop making stupid short wide monitors so it leaves more than 7 usable pixels.

Hot on the heels of the reveal of Microsoft’s Windows App Store comes news that the latest build of Windows 8 has been leaked. The build is the latest version of the 7850 build that has been shown at industry events starting back at CES in

I won't be back until next Tuesday, so if Get Carter is the correct answer, I would appreciate of someone else posts a new cap for me

Yup, it's the Milestone 1 from late September 2010 so I won't be expecting anything drastic. Will still be installing it to a VM and having a poke tho.

What I am finding funny is that already even with with this very early development build, there are people on forums already calling it the next Me/Vista. The RTM is still a very long way off and no doubt loads of extras and changes are still being worked on. Muppets.

However, one thing I would say Microsoft should start doing, and that is inexpensive interim OS releases. i.e, a major release and then a few years down the line the interim release which is a third/quarter of the price of the major release (for existing users anyway). As it is the upgrade prices are still quite steep. If Windows 7 is going to work fine for me to able to skip a release then I don't see why I would want to shell out the full premium (or even the upgrade price) for 8.

Just installed the M1 leak. Wouldn't bother with it as yet, virtually no visible differences to 7 as yet (even all the screens refer to it as Windows 7 Enterprise) apart from the Windows Live icon in the bottom right and higher build number.

And that's as really as exciting as it gets, folks.

Ribbons:annoying, takes too much room when you have a 17" laptop.
But, everything windows based now has a ribbon. Fantastic.

Well, I would say there is a long way to go until Windows 8 beta's surface and there's plenty of time for changes, tweaks and enhancements. If the ribbon proves more of a hindrance than help then it may be change.

It's a "game" from the Office people that you "play" in Word starring Clippy and trying to get people to use the ribbon.

                            Ribbon is still lame though.

From the sounds of it, you will be able to switch the Ribbon off for Windows Explorer (at the moment it's not actually switched on in Windows 8 unless you change a register key - which probably means it'll also be present in the RTM) so either way you prefer will be catered for.
