The sex scenes tend to include dialogue so I suppose that's the excuse for their inclusion.
The latest episode with Renly and Margaery and their consummation scene, the little 'foreplay', was it really necessary? Does a queen debase herself with a lame 'I can't decide if I look better in the gown or out of?' and makes a grab for the royal jewels? The cliche is laughable, I cannot imagine Martin writing it like that in the book.

For all the bitching the internet snobs do about how the show doesn't follow the book I kinda like it. It's so well done that I tend to completely ignore the parts the show does differently - since I've read the books I know where they go but at the same time I'm really interested to see where the show goes too.
