New cable modem - Motorola Surfboard SB6120

I just bought my own cable modem because Comcast upped their modem rates to $7/mo. I got a Motorola Surfboard SB6120, and ran some speed tests before/after to see if I'd notice any speed change or if it would only be monetary Surprisingly, my download speeds are reporting between 1.5-3x faster, and downloads are 50% slower.

    Code:
    bandwidthplace
    b	8.71, 3.64
    b	9.54, 4.10
    b	8.82, 3.74
    b	9.21, 3.77
    b	10.52, 4.16
    b	9.27, 3.59

    a	25.02, 2.27
    a	23.37, 1.81
    a	29.83, 1.70
    a	27.53, 1.59
    a	25.61, 1.67

    speedtest.net
    b	21.95, 4.86
    b	19.73, 5.00
    b	28.78, 4.87
    b	21.53, 5.10
    b	29.73, 4.92
    b	29.45, 5.06

    a	30.56, 2.67
    a	30.55, 2.58
    a	30.54, 2.17
    a	30.24, 2.24
    a	30.49, 2.62

I guess I'm excited about this, because I don't do much uploading Do you guys own your own cable modem, or rent from your cable company?

Here they sell you the DSL modem and the speed is capped to whatever you got contracted.

What are those units in? mb/s?

I got 5mb/0.5mb and thats the highest speed they offer here (for home use).
    Dont panic, its organic.

wait, I don't get it... download speeds are 3.0 fast, but downloads are still 50% slower?

i also run a motorola modem but older model for a specific reason

i get 22+ mb/s download and 3.0 up on speed test but have never seen it exceed 3 mb when on torrent.

depends on your comcast subscription throughput, but the DOCSIS 3 spec modem are capable of ~50Mbps
