being here in the states.... I have been unable to keep up with the mobile phone technologies brewing overseas.... GMS / GPRS / TRiBand / Worldphone - the terminology is a ball breaker...

is there a single phone (like the blackberry) that can work in the US and overseas seamlessly and integrate worldwide with various providers ?

Am going absolutely crazy looking for one which will allow you check emails / sms / web / and everything else....

I believe that AT&T/Cingular's GSM phones have that capability. I'm not 100% though.

cingular gsm phones work globally, except japan.

japan is on 3g, they're like, uber cool.

i have the motorolla v551. it will work globally, minus japan.

it is wise to change the chip to foreign networks when you get there however, otherwise you'll be paying through your teeth.

It's easy to change the chip dude. and he should be worried about rates, because any gsm phone over seas with the chip not switched out is going to ream his ass. but maybe that's what you're secretly wanting to do anyway. lol.

Well, I think all you should be looking for is a tri-band phone (it works on 3 different frequency bands) which should (like Jenks said) work in most of world countries (except Japan).

The Sony E S700i is quad band so will work anywhere in the world... plus its a great phone..the 3G shit is started to take off here too.

we use Blackberries here in my company, and they seem to be pretty good/stable. Why not just use it?

^ well whats ur budget? ya can pick S700i's up on ebay in the states for about $550 dollars but they will work and they have loads of business and fun options like the 1.3mp camera on them..

Blackberrys are abit chunky and gay in my opinion..
