In hockey the refs usually let a fight go for some reason, thats just hockey.

Yeah, I noticed. Only when they lay on the ice the refs come inbetween. Some kick ass clips on that site.

refs dont get in the middle of fights because they dont want to get hit... if the fight becomes unsafe then they are required to step in.. would you want to stop 2 6foot 4 , 230 pound angry dudes going at it

Not to mention the fact that the guys are on ice skates so their opportunity for leverage is seriously diminished. It isn't until one falls on the ice that the other has the upper hand (no pun intended), hence the reason the fight is broken up at this point. It usually takes a relatively short amount of time before one of them falls on the ice. This is the reason you sometimes see them holding on to one another; they want the fight to continue. This is also the reason why fighting is not tolerated in other sports where leverage and stability are easy to maintain because of the playing surface (eg baseball, football, basketball, etc).

No mention of the best hockey fight of all time??!!! Avalanche/Red Wings from 6-7 years ago. Everyone on the ice going at it, then Roy skates out to center ice and calls out Richter, who proceedes to beat Roy's fists with his face. Best shit I've ever seen.

BTW hockey sucks!!!!
