It's weird because I didn't like a lot of that stuff back then, but now when I hear a Morrisey/Depeche Mode type sample in a track I instantly love it.
I'm the same way... but they weren't playing tracks like that. the ones they played were complete crap.
That was also what I was trying to say...I hated Duran Duran and now I love them, go figure...that doesn?t mean I want to hear everyone and their uncle doing remixes of their tracks.

I don't know about you all, but part of the reason I became so enamored with independent artists and underground electronic music was because it provided a fresh alternative to what was pop music in the '80s and carried out on commercial radio. I wanted to get AWAY from it. Now, it's here. Run back underground, QUICK!
Some have defended it to me: "there's nothing wrong with rehashing and bootlegging because that's how house started. AND, it give something more accessible for audiences to latch onto, and it can be a gateway to more underground stuff." Ok, points taken, sort of. BUT, I don't see any more mainstream people getting into dance music as a result of our becoming more "accessible," because those people are all into 'in da club' and britney spears and whoever else. It might be attracting young people in their late teens and early twenties who missed the New Orders and Duran Durans and Frankie Goes to Hollywoods the first time around, but to those of us old-timers in our thirties that got OD'd on them the first time around, it's not fresh, and it's certainly not creatively stimulating...
As a side note, I'd rather hear DJs start rehashing old anthems and classics. You'd be surprised how many new kids have never heard "Flaming June" for example.

I agree, it?s a classic, but I think it?s a bit sad when one of the "big tunes" of WMC is a remix of a 15 year old track that wasn?t very good to start with.
And I must say the same about playing Kevin Saunderson?s "Good Life". Now, this track I loved since day 1, but once again, is house music really so stale that Deep Dish needed to play this for such a short set?
I don't think WMC '05 was a regurgitation of the 80s. Seems like 80's remixes have been coming out regularly for the last couple of years.
I would venture to say that "Pump Up the Jam" might be called the song of the conference because that's one of the few songs played that everyone knows. I heard lots of songs that I enjoyed much more than "Pump Up The Jam", but have no idea who the artist was.
I'm old like some of you(33 y/o) and still listen to my 80s sounds. Sirius' First Wave channel is enjoyable. I personally don't care for the 80s remixes except a few. I enjoy the original sounds better.
