this client who just walked out of my office had a 15 minute arguement and ended up crying after i told her i couldnt help any more and no, the gov't wont allow you act retro actively if she takes more withholding next year.

to sum it up quick.

1. she made 74,938.67
2. her Federal witholding was 174.36
3. her state witholding was 88.12

when i saw her W-2 i almost laughed in her face. took the return, did my best pushing where i could. she ended up owing 9134 to federal gov't, which oh yeah, has to be paid by next friday. the look in her eyes of just pure fear almost sent me into crying laughter. i never fought harder not to laugh. i wish i could have seen my face.

she proceeded to argue on for 15 minutes on why she shouldnt pay it, i told her i dont write the law i just interpret it, and apply it.

is it wrong that i took satisfaction that somehow a "stupid penalty" was enforced here?

that's horrible, but hilarious. Any bitch that can both make AND spend 75 grand in a year and not have any type of cushion in the bank deserves a kick like this. How'd she not realize this was going to happen based on last year's taxes? Why didn't she question the fact that only $22 in taxes were being taken out of each month?

pickle, one would think she learned from last year when she owed 6k, (i check the archives), but no, she DEFAULTED on the balance and is in collection from the IRS. this is office fodder right now, everyone, even the other clients are laughing.

oh wait , i will share one more, nothing tragic, jsut dumb.

i have this client who came to me this year for 2004 and ammendments of 2003. in 03 she made 495k and did her own taxes, taking the standard deduction (3050 in 2003),. even funnier is the fact that her NYC witholding alone was triple the deduction.

oh yeah and for skahound. i had this one girl , a 20 year old with HUGE cans, who worked as a loan broker and made about 70k, i looked at her w-2 and saw she was claiming 12 dependents........... she cried when we informed her she had to open up 6k in IRA's to knock her balance with the IRS from 8k to 1500. i said, ""you are 20 years old, and you claimed 12 dependents. no offense, but that was pretty dumb, did you need the extra cash each week for better weed?" (she was stoned when she walked in and laughed when i blew up her spot.)

that's why I don't do my taxes. I'm not an expert on it, and I'm not going to act like I am... I'll just let a pro do it.

these people ar eternally DUMB if they think a refund (or even breakout) is in order based on what you just said

question:

i did my taxes online for a quick turn around. it said i owed $38 for state taxes (GA)
pretty sure it didnt deduct that from my return, so where would i mail (or pay in person) this owed money?
any ideas?
