whats with the 5 posts displayed on the forum index page?

sure this is said somewhere but i can't see where so sorry to have to ask, but whats with the 5 post topics tha appear at the top of the forum index page?

J/K....in the news section you see the latest postings from various sections (e. g. Kiss100 tracklists or Recommended changes section) to get a quick overview of what?s going on here lately.
