Now here's another idea as to why aliens are portrayed that certain way.
Anybody been to Roswell, New Mexico? Even if you haven't there's something you have to consider about the time it happened (1947):
For people who say that there were no aliens, I ask: Why did technology suddenly take off right after the time this happened?
I visited the museum in Roswell and it laid out a powerful case for the event actually happening and it just being a government cover-up for the sake of world/political stability.
So I'm saying that the reason that aliens are portrayed the way they are is because they actually ARE like that, because they've already been seen.

Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. A bit off topic but since you mentioned faith, you really ought to check out Wayne Dyer's Power of Intention which airs on PBS all the time. I was so moved by it I shelled out the 160 bucks for the DVD. It does a real good job of relating science to God. But it also fits into the context of every religion. Don't worry its not one of those convert to such and such religion.

I think E's explaination is probably more accurate, however a thought: What if having 2 arms and 2 legs and walking upright is the most superior design? ie. if these aliens had the ability to choose their forms, is their a design that would be more superior? Look at what humans can do in comparison the other species. Personally the only thing I'd add would be wings and the ability to breathe underwater. Even without the aforementioned look at what we have achieved (we can still fly and go underwater). Having more or less in the appendages department doesen't seem more helpful either.

My point is: why would there be a mammal on another planet? The conditions on this world i.e. distance from the Sun, air chemistry, water chemistry, weather patterns, are condusive to our kind of life...carbon based life. On another planet, or moon, or whatever, that has an atmosphere of pure ammonia, an ocean of liquid nitrogen and ground made up of calcium phosphate could not support carbon based life. I think that drives alot of people to assume it could not sustain life, in general. That's what I'm most amped on...not so much that there is life, because I'm fairly positive that there is, but what the hell is it going to look like. :WTF:
