so i was just watching espn and they were talking about a brand new stadium next to yankee stadium...
is this true?
is the stadium already built? or under construction?
when will the move happen?

fuck man. ive been a yankees fan my whole life and never made it to the bronx for a game. i need to get there before they move.

Its proposed date for completion/opening is 2009 and it's going to be very similar in dimensions to the current Yankee stadium. They may have broken ground on it already, but it definitely isn't finished.

maybe second only to The Roman Colosseum.

its a long ways out.

the current stadium is given to the city of NY. but on the condition that it doesnt get completely destroyed, they want to build a museum of baseball.

the new stadium is a throwback to the original (1923). the press conference showed the models and drawings. looks beautiful

the only thing i dont like is that it will be built across the street. i think they should tear it all down and build on the ground were all those ghosts lie. too much history at that spot.

i prefer the museum idea over ripping it down. a lot of history and emotions on that ground.

I agree, tear it down. Because if they have the audacity, the nerve, the shallow-minded stupidity to destroy the "house that Ruth built" they will incur a curse that will make the Red Sox curse look like a blink of an eye. As a Mets fan. I'd love to see that!!

what people dont realize is that most of the current stadium is the original. all the retaining walls and foundation is the original 1923 stadium the one that was renovated in the 60's is just a small tear off and reuild. the bottom 2 hallways are tthe exact way theu were in 1923. makes walking onto the feild lvl boxes something special when you think people walked right there to see ruth gehrig dimaggio mantle berra rizzuto maris munson howard etc etc

I've been you Yankee stadium about 3 times and I think the character that place has is worth a lot more than whatever bullshit amenities you'd get with one of these lame new stadiums. Same thing with Shea, there's no movie theather or day spa, but it has history and character, and says something other than *generic*

I saw in the paper yesterday that now that Bloomberg got shot down on the west side stadium (another porject I didn't want) he's moved on to the Mets and wants to augment onto Shea's open outfield. I'm a bit torn on this one, while I'd like the Mets to get some love, I like Shea the way it is and the layout of the new plan looks way too big for the Met crowd. This plan is a dud anyway, because nobody is going to Flushing for the Olympics.

my buddy works for the yanks...he was at a meeting yesterday and saw the layout. he said it's gonna look insane. if you've ever been to camden yards, he said it's gonna be better...and camden is phat.
