Pat Robertson and Venezuela

What do you'll think about his comments on "taking out" the Venenzuelan president Chavez? I don't agree with his comments and I'm sure plenty of Christians don't agree with him either. The problem is that many non-Christians will be turned off even more by comments like this.

What I find interesting about the Venezuela situation is that they are one of the biggest exporters of oil to the U.S. and Chavez wants to look for other buyers than the U.S. for their oil. It seems like we're ready to go to war or some calling for war with countries that have oil.

First, he didnt say "take him out". He said there are policies of assasination in place, maybe its time we do that.

He later tried to say that he said "take him out". Video of this was on The Daily Show, and is now posted @ crooksandliars.com.

He is an idiot.

Second, although I dont really care for Al Franken, in no way shape of form has he ever said that we shouldnt prosecute criminals. That is just stupid sightless, and you know it.

Regardless, Robertsons comments are coming from a prominent Christian, one who appears on Fox News on a weekly basis, and a man who ran for President as a republican in 1988.

The funniest thing about his comments were that "Chavez is a brutal dictator" which is totally false, and that "he is a communist which will lead to muslim extremism" which is just bizarre.

He was twice elected with more than 80% of the vote, and communism usually forbids religion.

The guy is out ot lunch.

I agree with you guys, Pat Robertson is an idiot in many ways. He sounds like a fool to me most of the time. Sometimes he may make a good point about something, but he really needs to just preach and stay out of politics.

Though I don't agree with Robertson, I have heard something also about Muslims moving into Venezuala. I think they are moving anywhere and everywhere they can ... 1. for a better life than there desert homelands, and 2. to evangelise the world, which they are suppose to do if following Allah completely.

I don't know much on the move of muslims there really, but only heard it was happening. I don't think they could care less if the country is mostly catholic.

Rob: I'm sure Muslims are moving into any area in the world, either for evangelisation or if they think it's a good place to hide and prepare some more mayem. However, the Islam has only a really really small place in Latin-American History as far as I know, so I don't see it getting foot on the ground there real soon. Luckily state control is usually a bit bigger out there than in Africa, personally I'd worry more about the latter one, especially Somalia, Sudan and Northern Africa where the extremist branch is still obviously present...

Yao, I can only respectfully disagree with you. In that, maybe 50 years ago, we would not have expected France to be 20% muslim.

The Latin-American history has most likely not had much of any Islamic presence, but neither has my hometown. Only since the Olympics came to Atlanta has our international population of ALL peoples increased so rapidly. My hometown outside of Atlanta was only a little backwards ass country town 20 years ago, now you almost can't find Americans when you pumping gas or walking thru the grocery store.

So, many ethnicities have come to my hometown, including Muslims, and I think because of the ease of travel nowadays people are leaving homelands at an alarming rate to find a place to make a better life. This is happening all over the world, not just in Latin-America, or my hometown, or Europe, but everywhere.

OK I hear on that one. It's just that I'm kinda hesitant in accepting the thought that the extemist side would get a hold on such a fanatic Catholic continent...

I'm really sure they will move into the continent, but somehow I have the idea that the tolerance for another belief, and especially an egressive spread of it will be pretty low. The only problem could be the relative high degree of dissatisfaction with governments, even though they're doing much better than in Africa in general. That is always a weak point, because where the state fails, religion will tend to fill the power vacu?m. If they can prevent that, they may be able to prevent the Islam from spreading too much in Latin America...
