if the green laser is on your right, you're walking toward the exit. if the red laser is on your right, it means you're walking toward the middle of the building and need to turn around so that the green is on your right
I just guess that in case of fire everyone escapes....except Ska, no matter how ingenious the technology trying to guide him out is...Just gotta accept that.
As a volunteer firefighter I believe this is a fantastic idea. The feeling you must have, helping people find the way to escape a life endangering situation, is euphoric. I do not believe you will need any luck, your idea speaks for itself. Awesome job man, best wishes.

Not living my life to see if I get into heaven or hell, just how long I'll have to spend in purgatory.
But a laser is a continuous beam of light. So therefore if it is shooting toward north (from south) you could follow it south and if you were on the east side it would be on your right. But you could become confused and follow it north (not knowing which direction the light is coming from since it's continuous and does not fade) and it would be on your right if you were west of the beam.
Does that make sense?
I think I see what you are saying. If you walk out of your room in the middle of the beam how do you know which way the beam originated? Is that what you are getting to?

You people are not using your heads. The green laser could be on your right and you could be heading toward it or away from it. What is so hard to understand about that? It's not like a light bulb who's light fades with distance.
Think about it this way: A green laser positioned at 8 feet high on a wall that shoots out at an angle that is even with the horizon of your surroundings. So it spans wall to wall, starts at one and ends at the other. But, in a smokey room, completely engulfed, which wall does it start from and which does it end? If you wake up from your sleep inhaling smoke, become just the least bit disoriented, that green laser can be on your right and you could travel in either direction. Think about your computer desk, you could be standing on the side where your chair is and it's possible for the desk to be on your right. However, if you go to the opposite side of the desk, and turn in the opposite direction, the desk is on your right as well. The only difference being that you're in a clear room and obviously know which side is which.

who cares which way the beam is flowing... you're not following the flow of the beam. You're running toward the exit because you know Green on Right means go, and Red on Right means no.
the idea works... otherwise Discovery wouldn't be visiting

The starting and ending don't matter, it's the direction that counts. If the green is on your right, you are always traveling in the correct direction. Remember, it's flat against the wall. If you became disoriented and turned 180 degrees, it would now be on your left and you have to remember that's the wrong way to go.
Ski hills use similar fluorescent signposts to keep you from going off the trail in clouds, fog or snow. The first time I experienced this I found it very strange. After half a day it seemed very natural.
Ok, I didn't scour the site to read the intricacies as the site is too difficult to read/navigate. Thank you for clearing that up gentlemen. And the firemen around here aren't allowed to have beards pickle..they might catch on fire.
