Just opt for traffic school. You can do it on line in about an hour (it's suppose to take about eight) and you will have no points against your driving record.
At least that's how it is in southern California. -

2 points/ticket...usually...
#1) Opt to show up in court if you can; you may get it waived if the officer doesn't show
#2) Opt for school if you can't do step 1 or if they show...
"Traffic school will keep the ticket off your record, avoid a trip to court and there will be no increase in your California car insurance rates. Be sure to get approval from the court prior to taking the school."
School's allowed once per 18 months...

If you can afford it, it is worth it to have an attorney take care of the ticket for you -- no points, no bump in insurance. It may cost more now, but you'll pay less in the long run, trust me.
Shouldn't be more than $100 or so if you shop around, plus your fine and court costs. Particularly when you're looking at something 20+, it is worth trying to get it amended to something that won't stay on your driving record.Comment

well it's usually 2 for states that use a point system...now I see CA is different & that there's no exact #. The fact if you're convicted of the 85 + your previous driving record will probably determine it in the end...if this is your 1st ticket ever or in ages, you probably could get into school and avoid the points/pay a fine instead...it'd be cheaper as points can be anywhere from 3-7 years based on your overall record & insurance company.
Remind me never to speed if I'm out there....yeeeesh.

Got 1 ticket in CT doing 79 in a 65..... Officer gave me a $240 ticket....
Got another ticket in WV doing 45 in a 25.... at one point the sign said 45 and just as I hit the corner, the second sign said 25, as I was braking to reduce my speed, the officer caught me and gave me a $645 ticket for reckless driving. Thought I'll go to court and speak with the judge (which I did). Judge didn't buy that was trying to brake. Added on the court fees and the ticket ended up costing me $740. Not to mention the $120 that they charged me in having my car towed away.
