Don't wanna look back the pics taken of my face afterwards though...at least I managed to punch back after he came at me from my dead angle. Fucking pussy. My teacher asked if I went down. I've trained free fighting (or grappling) a few times, but although it was quite fun, I've quit anyway. Most of the action during a fight takes place on the ground and thàt's boring imo. And to tell you the truth,
Nah man, I prefer muay thai over any martial arts discipline. Nothing hits the spot like a well placed blow with the knee or an elbow. Who want's to see a submission when you can see this in the ring:
And btw, no good striking? The most pussy beating I've ever got was during free fight matches. Most guys just slap you while they try to get you down on the floor asap.
You prolly got that idea because a lot of (especially) kickboxers try to keep the oponent at a distance with front and side kicks just to avoid getting in striking range. Good strategy when you're light and fast (like Mr Feather weight Yao I guess), but when you measure 1m80 and weigh 85kg like I do, getting into striking range is the first thing you want to do. I'm not that fast, but I have a good swing. Plus the fact that I'm fighting southpaw is an additional plus. Always funny to see the other guy getting completely disorientated when I keep switching back and forth between the "classic" position and southpaw

Yeah, usually as a featherweight you do go in pretty hard too btw. The lighter the fighter, the harder fight. I'm only 65 kilos and 1.78, a bit too light for my height. Somehow I manage to get quite some impact out of my punches and kick...actually almost kicked the legs out under a guy that weighs in at 87 kilos a few weeks ago. That was pretty funny .
Free fighting is nice, but like you said, they go for the legs trying to floor you and usually any good kicking/punching techniques aren't used since most of the fighting takes place on the ground. I still love my Pencak-Silat though, which is still my real martial art as far as i'm concerned. Back when I did that, I wasn't even afraid of thaiboxers since my training always ended up with fighting without any protection at all, barefist. Just no blows to the head. I've never been more bruised than in that period....fuck, I even did trainings in the forest on saturdays punching and kicking trees to get harder
And yes, I did a one on one with The Diamond. He's a great fighter, but a lousy person. Sign up though, and get better! Just don't drink a beer with the guy....
