Okay lets theoretically say that I broke a young woman's heart. And recently a person, who, I don't know... Finds that in their facebook the quote... "I have loved and had my heart broken." (Same young woman.)
There is no chance or ever picking up the pieces and fixing it, but how does one get over the guilt trip feeling?
Sorry if this sounds vague, been a long night. Went to the "Breakfast Club" (route 18 in NJ) listened to a lot of 80's and 90's music and am plenty liquored up...
Lets just answer the question of how I broke her heart now, I am a dick and was young and naive and thought true love would last forever even if I took a vaction of sorts to chase other tail...
The sailors of the United States Navy are among the most disciplined, devoted, and well-trained fighting men the world has ever known. They drink gasoline and piss fire, The spit bullets and shit bombs, and will swim across the ocean with a knife in their teeth just for the chance to carve up those that threaten their homeland.
A) Come to terms with what you did that was negligent and/or hurtful to the other person in the situation, realize why you TRULY did whatever that you did, and acknowledge those things to that person who you have hurt or done wrong.
B) Get really good at repressing even the slightest ounce of guilt having any effect on yourself, this should help in starting to hide from more problems and personal feelings, until you either flip out and snap, or become a shell of the personality you once were.
C) Just recognize that that feeling of guilt you've got was earned, but as time goes on, it shall diminish, and you'll feel better by making certain that you dont have any repeat attacks of inconsideration or selfishness that result in pain for others for your own convenience.
Your pain will fade a lot when you really become honest with yourself and hold yourself accountable to do the right thing...... ....give the people in your life the respect and attention that they have shown and given to you.....
No easy soultion but at least some simple ideas on where to start and where to avoid.....

admit you've fucked up, move on, and if you get into another relationship again, know what you want and parlay and stick with it...don't let her get into you too much if you don't want to do the same.

Go to church and burn a candle to thank the Allmighty she didn't toss ur dick out of a moving car. Now you can cut it off yourself and throw it at the police
Fu, who ever said that humans are perfect? Fuck, don't tell me others have never betrayed you or broken your heart...we make mistakes, and sometimes don't make it right again. Tough, that's life bro. Maybe that girl should learn to give dissapointing experiences a place in her life...cos she's gonna have a lot more before her life is over. Just like everyone around here.
EVERYONE screws up at least once, especially when they're young. You've already admitted that there's no chance of reconciliation, so just get on with it, the guilt will diminish.
I screwed a girl over years ago, nothing major, but i did break her heart. Last summer a girl did the very same thing to me - yes i was bitter but i'm over it now. Shit happens mate.
egg-fucking-zactly. As a matter of fact...i'll be doing something like that very soon i'm afraid...got this girl acting all in love with me, while all i wanna do is have some fun right now. I'm seriously not looking to get involved with her, even though she's sweet...but we just make the worst match ever I think. One good thing though..i hope i can get her to forget her ex and move on this way, cos that bastars has been using her for a few years now. Asshole...i'll be one, but she'll probably thank me afterwards . And I'll be honest about it, too.
You've already taken the steps...albeit drunkly... at getting past/over this. You've admitted your failure and you feel bad for it. It's out in the open to us... now tell her. She'll either except it or she won't. Either way you will have cleared your head with her, her friends, your friends and anyone else involved and it will be done with. That feeling of "boy, I really fucked that up" will never go away and it shouldn't... it's a learning experience. Everything that happens, and I mean EVERYTHING that happens in one's life happens for a reason....
On a side note, it took me roughly 35 years to realize I was a selfish prick... You're way ahead of the curve.
