Didn't Sydney veteran DJ Peewee Ferris compile the music for the opening ceremony of the Sydney 2000 games? From memory it really sucked... but he did throw in his track Genesis which does rock.

Mind you I've gone through bucketloads of drugs since then, so maybe I'm way off the mark here!

The Olympic gig isn't going to hurt his chances. Even though his music is spoon fed tunes for the masses, a dj playing during the opening ceremonies is good for all of us.

nah, i started out listening to electronic music like tiesto, pvd and armin (sasha has always been there ) and gradually shifted to house/diggerz. i think that even just opening up someone's mind to electronic music (assuming lots of people at the stadium aren't familiar with trance OR house at all) will help out the industry, regardless if you think the music is shitty or not. the people listening may also think the music is shite, but at least the people that aren't familiar with the music would be introduced to it. unfortunately, the majority of the crowd might actually dig what he does and actually help his chances to be #1 again.
