"Top Gear" Host Richard Hammond Seriously Hurt in Crash

Top Gear's Richard Hammond is seriously ill in hospital after a crash in a jet-powered car while filming for the BBC programme.

The 36-year-old presenter was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary's neurological unit.

A spokesman for the hospital said Mr Hammond was "stable".

Mr Hammond had been driving a dragster-style car capable of reaching 300mph at the former RAF airfield in Elvington, near York.

He really is a great guy, I hope he makes a speedy and full recovery. I've been to a top fuel drag race here in NJ and those things move the fuck out. The only surprise is that they don't get hurt more often-- they are like a scaffolding with a 1000hp motor and huge sticky tires.

One of those stunts was going to end up in disaster at some stage. Sounds like he's in a pretty bad way too. Hopefully he'll have a speedy recovery.

what did you expect, his helmet was IN the ground Anywayz, bran damage is a job requirement to work at Top Gear, so he'll be fine

Looks like he is doing a lot better

He has now taken his first steps since the accident and has been moved to a general medical ward
