just picked up the razr its pretty cool....can't believe how much cells phones have changed since the toster size ones

I've got a razor through verizon. Works really well for me. Been in NYC for a week without any issues. Was in LA a few weeks ago without issues. Use it at home in San Francisco with no issues. It's like $45 a month and I'm happy with the service. Their contracts suck but their service is good in my experience.

cost of plans, reception, customer service, quality of phones...what I've come to learn is that some are good at some of em and no one's good at all of them. Every cell carrier seems to have their different niche...

been with sprint for about 7 years. I travel a lot, and they seem to have reliably good coverage in metropolitan areas, which is where I tend to be.

cingular. service has always been above average for me, and only have those "black holes" that seem to have no signal no matter what service you have. lol. didn't realize it until recently, but you can buy almost any phone on ebay unlocked so it will work with almost any service. i got a nokia n93 a few months back. it's not in the official cingular phone selection.

I happen to live in a Cingular black hole right now -- my wife used to have Cingular, but she changed it after we moved into this new house. Our Sprint service works like a champ, though. Oh well, what do you do.

here's the run down

cingular- largest digital voice and data network in america. data and voice footprint are the same which means, if you can use your phone, you can send text, pics, email, use the internet, etc. operates on a GSM network which means if you travel overseas you can use your phone. great selection of phones, great data offerings, customer service is very easy to work with. (depending on the person on the other end of the phone, but this is true with all carriers) downfalls- due to the fact that gsm is fairly new technology in the u.s. the network is not completed yet- this also works as an advantage because they are constantly upgrading the system

verizon- uses wcdma network very reliable, but you will need to rent a phone if you travel out of the u.s. voice footprint and data footprint are not the same, which means there are large areas where you will have voice coverage but no data and vice versa. customer service is HORRIBLE to deal with. in a nutshell, if they can think of a way to make a dime off you; it will happen. limits the ways that heavy data users use their network. they are currently in the process of redefining business strategies, curious to see what this leads to.

sprint/nextel- deceptive when it comes to coverage. uses different networks they use several different footprints and combine all of them (overlaying) to claim they have the largest network. great service if you travel only to major cities and travel by plane. had no dealings with sprint customer service when i had it because i did not keep it long.

t-mobile- usually gets the cool phones 1st, cheapest data offerings of any wireless carrier. very easy to deal with from my experiences. only downfall i can think of is coverage. (which is a big deal) coverage is not that great, (being polite) however in major cities it's fantastic, also uses cingulars gsm network as a roaming partner

i know there are more wireless providers out there such as rodgers, vodaphone, O2, U.S. Cellular, etc. just wanted to cover the basics. if any of you have questions on how anything works or how to handle a situation with any carrier pm me, it's what i do.

tmobile for about 5 years. the coverages sucked ass about 4 yrs ago, but has steadily picked up. we signed up for some family plan w/ 2 phones & about 1000 minutes w/ free btwn the 2.
