Mac help!

I deleted all my music and movies off my laptop! I have a PowerBook G4 running OSX.

Any way to recover these?

there was a discussion about this recently. there are programs to help you retrieve deleted data. surely someone will help you out jayson just give it some time for people to reply.

I believe Norton has a utility that will allow you to restore deleted items.

When you delete items -- even after you empty the trash -- they remain on your hard drive, but that space is freed up for other things and can be overwritten. You can still recover them, but you'll need a utility like the one I've described. If you intend to go that route, you should refrain from unnecessarily writing a bunch of stuff to your hard disk, defragging it, or anything else that will upset the status quo. The less you do between now and the time you restore it, the more likely you are to be able to restore most or all of it.

I read somewhere there is no undelete function for a Mac.

it's pricey, but there is a free demo that will let you figure out if it will be worth your while to try or not...

If you emptied your trash, then things will be a little more tricky, but still not without hope. If your have lost things that are somewhat easily replaceable and you don't want to purchase recovery software that is in the $50 ballpark, then you are pretty SOL.....

there is always hope if you didnt "secure empty trash".... my buddy did it w/ some app, cost him a few bucks, but it worked.... i will ask him tomorrrow...

It sounds like since OSX it isn't as effective as it used to be, but the general principal for this stuff is still the same.

The original poster in that thread recommends Virtual Lab as giving him great success about halfway down, someone else mentions the Symantec set of utilities. Someone else states that you won't be able to find a free version.

Hope that helps, this has always been a breeze on a PC, so the way I look at it you should have at least some success. As others have said, in its current state you should be writing to that drive as little as possible right now.
