No luck for Ibiza this year

They just can't seem to catch a break!
First their major clubs are shut down, now an oil tanker crashes and leaks onto their beaches

Despite initial claims that the situation was under control, the reality is that oil has continued to escape from the cargo vessel, Don Pedro, which sank off Ibiza in the early hours of Wednesday.

The authorities say that ten tons of tar has been collected from the sea already, and that no protected natural areas are under threat. However divers to the wreck found a broken tube from which more oil was escaping yesterday.

The Minister for Development, Magdalena ?lvarez, after meeting with the operation coordinators, said that escape should be plugged this morning.

Three beaches on Ibiza have been closed as a result of the spill, reported to be four kms in length, San Figueretes, Evissa, and Playa de Talamanca.

^ haha, no doubt. glad i'm 1000s of miles away and have no urge to spend tons of money to go visit any time soon. hope they get that shit cleaned up quickly for the sake of the marine life, 100 million times more so than the tourists. our oceans' marine life is dwindling at such a rapid rate and these catastrophes never help.

Ibiza is so much more than drugs and (rediculously expensive) clubbing. For those who are still going, try this inside tip: take the bus to Es Cana and hike back to Santa Eulalia along the sea border. Infuggincredible sights most of the mindless clubbers will never see.

Hypo - I'm staying at Playa Reale - its on the beach, and was doing half-board for a bargain price. Its a pretty decent hotel ... right on the beach ... just by the oil !!

my freinds are going in august, i didnt want to go and was a bummer for me, but i guess its all screwed up now..they' can still damage some brain cells though
