choppy video/sound on my mac

i'm trying to do some of the bbc's language lessons but the video and audio is so chopped up i can't follow it. i tried opera, firefox and safari and they all have the same problem...updated the flash player too.
i often have this problem with youtube and other sites with videos. i don't think it's a streaming problem because the videos play back weird even after they've loaded completely. any idears? this is really pissing me off

create a temporary user account and see if the issue persists there...

same thing happens on another account. i don't think i've got any software that would mess it up - this computer is pretty much just music, internet and word

Are you wireless? Try hooking up using ethernet and see if there is a difference...

i don't have an airport card and the hokey pokey doesn't work
i'm pretty sure it's a computer issue and not a network thing

Maybe if you squeeze your lemons really, really tight then maybe... just maybe... the problem will go away.

You should not be having this problem.

Have you looked at your system resources while watching these clips (from the application folder, go to utilities and run activity monitor) ? are you out of memory, do you have anything downloading, any updates running? etc.

You can also install istat pro as a widget and it is a great resource to see what the hell your mac is doing.

let me know. Actually what are you currently spec'd out at?

I love to hear my MBP fans fire up when the machine is dosing high computing power, other wise the machine is deadly silent.
