....when did he decide to start mixing properly again? I've listend to four sets today, out of boredom. His track selection isn't always to my taste but he does play some interesting stuff early in his sets. Anyways, he's been slagged to high hell for his atrocious mixing since probably 2000-ish. I think there was a thread here earlier about this. But...the four sets.....not one (that i can recall) fvck-up. I thought, after the first set, that this was just an aberation. but the second, third, fourth... and i'm onto the middle of 5 right now from Cali (it's up on newmixes.com.).... just flawless. (But i'm keeping my fingers crossed). This set i'm on now makes me think back to his Shadow Lounge set....similar vibe on it.
Back to his track selection. Of course he'll play some cheese, but some of the classics he has thrown in there...Burning Flame....Greece 2000.....have some really incredible re-workings. Some Deadmau5, Oliver Huntenmann, Underworld, Stoneproof, Way Out West....
It may be too early to say that "he's back in form", but hmmmm.....
you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky
it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles
that would be interesting. I've read some accounts from people seeing him this year that say they were disappointed seeing him "using cd's. and a few interviews of oakey saying that it's cool to embrace technology (when asked about ableton) he says there's an element of performance that ableton takes away.
it's definitely probative stuff yet, but i can't find out whethere he does or not.

Who cares he will forever keep the moniker: Jokenfold. I wouldn't pay to go to his sets if he was starving or dying of aids and needed medical treatment or food.
You lose! You get nothing! God day sir!
The sailors of the United States Navy are among the most disciplined, devoted, and well-trained fighting men the world has ever known. They drink gasoline and piss fire, The spit bullets and shit bombs, and will swim across the ocean with a knife in their teeth just for the chance to carve up those that threaten their homeland.
take your pick. The top most one is where I realized that it was just straight good mixing....the one on 12/08 (if you can ID the track at 36 minutes in....lemme know)
but again, dont' know if he's using ableton.

Come on guys...don't diss Oaky...
He is a damn legend and pioneer of electronic music if ever there was one...
from Goa to Ibiza he's done it all..
To write him off this easily would be wrong and simply RUDE...
I for one will be always open for his come back...even though some of his sets were plain horrible e.g. wmc 2007 etc.
nevertheless he has produced some major hits, mixed some great sets and made some massive parties and for that he should always be remembered and respected...
he has managed to create a sound of his own which is easily recognized - whether you like him and his music is a different story...no matter - he is a legend.

I've always liked him .. he's legend in Liverpool after his residency and we are a loyal crew (just like I'm still loyal to Sasha even though the music he plays rarely gets anywhere near to the quality of his sets from 1999 to 2004, and can be a major disappointment some nights). Oakey played one of the best sets of 2007 at Liverpool Academy (Digweed's Renaissance Pacha set being the highlight), dragging out a full set our Courtyard classics for 2+hours - just like back in his Cream days the make up, build and development of his set was faultless with him topping each previous tune. It was nice to actually enjoy the music during a night out - listening to the drab clicky stuff these days can at times be painful on nights out. Oakey gave the likes of Carl Cox a foot up the ladder when he was running around with his PA system - Carl's Space Terrace sets are always bang on the money.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.
you cant knock him that much. yes lately hasnt been up to par, and i am downloading that 12/08 set right now to check it out btw. but back in the day he shaped the whole scene. listen to his em 99 world tour mixes again and you will know. plus i caught him a few times back when he first brought dave ralph over to the us for his tranceport tour and i had a good time.
dont knock him just because he has hairy arms, looks goofy and does the jesus pose all the time
