NEW YORK, March 10 (Reuters) - New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has told his most senior administration officials that he had been involved in a prostitution ring, the New York Times reported on its Web site on Monday, citing an administration official.
A person with knowledge of the governor's role told the Times the governor was believed to be a client of a prostitution ring.
Spitzer had been due to make an announcement at 2:15 p.m. EDT (1815 GMT), but half an hour later had yet to address a room crowded with journalists awaiting his statement.
The crusader against corruption himself! Who woulda thunk...this may be interesting to watch unfold.
Re: NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer tied to prostitution ring
This truly hurts...I've been politically jaded for a damn long time and yet this is still one hell of a surprise.

Re: NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer tied to prostitution ring
wow this is classic! It's like right out of some bad movie... Now he can stick it to himself through the various tough anti-corruption/crime guidelines he's set up to deal with people like...him
Re: NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer tied to prostitution ring
Surprised, but not sure if he should resign or not. I'm sure he had White House aspirations and the governor job was a stepping stone. His problem is that he's known for being tough as a prosecutor and many I'm sure many are enjoying his troubles. The old sayings of what comes around goes around and karma's a bitch come to mind.
Important to me is what was the wiretap for? Were the Feds trying to prosecute the prostitution ring and got a big catch or were the Feds out to get Spitzer? Is this a way to attack the Democrats in an election year? I'd like to hear more.

I think he absolutely should resign. Your integrity is ultimately all that you have - yes, even in politics - and we as a society should expect no less especially from people who have carefully constructed their career around moral imperatives of fighting corruption, etc. He's a hypocrite and he should leave public office right away.

Yep, you're 100% right. Bums me out, too, because I viewed Spitzer as one of the good ones. I've litigated a lot of cases that came on the heels of a Spitzer investigation...
Re: NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer tied to prostitution ring
^^ I agree that prostitution can be legalized, for all I care... But that's not the point here - it's the blatant hypocrisy, given his particular career path. Hell...he helped implement and enforce the very wiretap laws that now busted his sorry ass
Re: NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer tied to prostitution ring
right on mike, check this quote from the NY Times:
When he was attorney general, Mr. Spitzer’s signature issue was pursuing Wall Street misdeeds. But he also oversaw the prosecution of at least two prostitution rings by the state’s organized crime task force, which reports to the attorney general.
In one such case in 2004, Mr. Spitzer spoke with revulsion and anger after announcing the arrest of 16 people for operating a high-end prostitution ring out of Staten Island.
“This was a sophisticated and lucrative operation with a multitiered management structure,” Mr. Spitzer said at the time. “It was, however, nothing more than a prostitution ring.

He is such a prick, deserves everything coming to him.
Maybe if he hadn't "steamrolled" prostitution rings in the past I wouold feel differently...
EXACTLY.. why does it always seem that when these people, politicians or whatever, are so adamently against something it turns out that they are hiding personal issues just as bad or worse than what they are campaigning against.. like that bloke soliciting gay sex in mens rooms.
you think he was paying for these hookers out of his pocket? or charging it as an "entertainment" expense.
I've got nothing at all against gay marriage or prositution or drugs etc... just the two faced assholes running the country with this holier than thou attitude. just because they have money and/or power.
