Credit where credit is due -- from a "throwing red meat to the mouth-breathers" standpoint, she hit a home run. The GOP faithful will probably love that. Sounds like Rush Limbaugh wrote it, but I guess that's what you get to do when you're in a speech as opposed to a debate.
The bad news? She's probably a better speaker than McCain and might just upstage him.

Sometimes you catch a bit of a news report or a piece of text from an article that beautifully frames what a phony game all this convention business really is. Happened to me this evening while reading the Washington Post, with this passage:
Sitting around a dining room table, the McCain team has talked to her about Iraq, energy and the economy but has focused on what she should say in her speech, struggling almost as hard as she has to prepare for what will be, along with a debate in October, her main opportunity to shape the way she is viewed by voters. Not anticipating that McCain would choose a woman as his running mate, the speech that was prepared in advance was "very masculine," according to campaign manager Rick Davis, and "we had to start from scratch."
Few politicians write their own speeches anymore. But even my jaded eyes bugged at the idea that McCain’s campaign had already written tonight’s speech before they knew who the running mate would be.
"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."

The speech was very good. However, this by no means changes the facts about her.(And the Republican party) But now McCains choice does make a bit more sense.
I thought Palin did well too. I thought it was good the way she introduced her family, talked about her accomplishments, why McCain is the right choice and of course attack the opponent.
Although I'm impressed by both her and Obama and their speech making abilities and charisma, I still don't think either candidate is qualified to be President. However, having either McCain or Biden to help is a good thing.
It is refreshing to have new candidates and politicians to choose. The last 2 weeks seeing Hillary, Bill, Joe, Fred and Rudy gets old election after election. Don't get me wrong, we need that experience too. However, it's definitely an exciting time to have two candidates like Obama and Palin.

there's a huge, vast, cavernous distinction between conservatism and republicanism. i hope by now my posts have helped you discern the two.
Oh yes, I'm quite aware of the difference. There are actually ideas of Republicanism that I agree with such as fiscal responsibility/"conservatism", but the "Republicans" that have been in office for the last 8 years have been the exact opposite.
Perhaps I should have said neo-conservatism instead. I hate the fiscal hypocrisy, social bigotry, religious fanaticism and "America against the world" mentality of neo-conservatism that has become synonymous with "conservatism" these days. And because the Republican party is now synonymous with neo-conservatism (which I consider a cancer), I am so forcefully for Obama and so against McCain.

Palin's speech lacked any substance that she understands the fundamentals of anything conservative. All she did was point fingers. But the whole issue here is DOES SHE KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO BE CONSERVATIVE?????
i was left wanting after she concluded her speech. her only argument to vote for McCain was that he was "courageous" and such. A president will never be in a position to be courageous. Reason, however, is too imperative to such a position.
Apparently appealing to emotions has become a greater political force than philosophy and reason. fascinating.

$75.00 to barack tonite, speech made me want to vomit, i'm going to make sure EVERYONE i know does not vote for that ticket, her speech reminded me just how evil republicans are and they MUST be destroyed.
