There's been some kind of video camera (Sony I think) on the market for a couple of years that had this same sort of "problem" with it's night vision abilities. I'm willing to bet this third party developer Yamada Denshi knowingly used the same technology expecting to make a fortune from a supposed x-ray camera. I doubt it's just a side-effect.
