You'd be suprised how many of these scams worked - I work for a UK bank and we had tons of claims for the stupidest of things (incl. a chequing scam on sending a horse to Nigeria !!).sigpicSimonR

This American Life had an absolutely HILARIOUS segment on a few weeks back where they reported on this entire sub culture of hackers that basically scam these scammers. they sent the most prominent one on this crazy ass goose chase to this crazy war torn city and almost got him killed. it was awesome....I love you when you're not masterminding my downfallComment

^^ lol that's awesome!! Sometimes I try to have fun and lead these guys on for a bit but they realize they're not getting anywhere after a few exchanges. I always think about how stupid they can be to actually think this works...and then I read reports like the one above and realize even if 0.1% of people respond, then its worth it for them.
Unfortunately, I've heard much darker stories where they actually get the people to come to their country, and then ultimately end up killing them. That's why I have absolutely no qualms about these hackers leading these assholes to war torn cities where they can taste a little bit of their own medicine!
