I stay fuck leaving or even supporting their right to stay there, expand their territory out further than what they presently own so the populated areas in Israel have a chance of seeing "some" peace and the newly acclaimed land can become the empty barren areas where these radical idiots around them can continue to try and wage war without the fear of hurting more innocent people.

seriously dude, you crack me up, there's way more to being where you're from than your neighbors, your economy and so much more that you aren't relating to. clearly your sense of belonging isn't really one.

I totally understand dave's response. I have a connection with my homeland like no other, its not the glitter of tall buildings or the (not-so) fantastic economy or the being most powerful nation in the world. for me, my heritage and connection to my land is way more than that. beyond the obvious, its the tiniest of things I can relate to in an inexplicable way and arouse a sense of belonging that makes me proud of where I'm from (why I'm in the US has nothing to do with any of these).

from the muslim mosque just beyond the compound wall of my native place (where I'd hear their prayers early morning during my summer holidays) to the smell of the dusty roads in the small town I was born (where I have seen the first light of day), is a reminding scent and builds a connection to the place way beyond materialistic realities.

and there's no islamist going to take that away from me (had I been living back home) with a few bombs.

isrealis existed there for a long time (few thousand years)
between the crusades and the muslim expansion, the jews were pusehd out of the region and dispersed.
theytried to move back in, but muslim countries allowing a large scale peaceful coexistence with jews will never happen.
after ww2, britian and the alliend powers signed a treaty setting up a jewish state to try and give them back a peice of thier historical homeland
arabs as a whole want them out because the conveinently forget the jews were there first and had to leave because of a pillaging warlord named mohammed and a pissed off pope whose names escapes me.

the UN is bound by treaty to protect them, and if we dont, they are dead. think of isrealites without outside protection as an endangered species.

That's such a stupid logic proposed by sightless...i am not saying i support either side but according to him because the Jews were in Israel "first" (like 3000 years ago) they get to keep it and that's the way it works?? So then...Britain and Holland, France etc should like declare war on the US and try and get their land back??

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say that declaration of a particular piece of land as your homeland is an arbitrary subdivision of the planet where we all live. I feel a profound connection to any and every piece of land or nation I travel to, and would have no problem calling any place on Earth my home so long as I had a home to go to. That said, I wouldn't want to be forcefully removed from a location where most of my culture's history had transpired...

Makes me realize I know next to nothing about this issue. Why are Muslims so infuriated by the Jewish presence there? Is it another one of those "the one true religion" things was played out ad nauseum 500 years ago? I assume it also has to do with Western intervention and meddling?

Historical fact...hehe good for you I am not as quick to throw insults around otherwise I would be forced to call you some names...

As for facts...a gretaer level of objectivity may be needed to call something a historical fact...a murdering warlord? the arabs wanted them out and the jews were cool with the arab population? the only ones who commited crimes are arabs right...no psychotic jewish ppl are to blame as well...hehe...and of course the cold war and the therat of communism had nothing to do with establishing israel in the middle east...no i guess not...man you really need to read up. I know you said short history but its short without the history part...

So to cut the story short its not a statement of Historical fact its a statement of your version of history...therefore it is an argument and a proposal of history for everyone to accept as true or reject as false...I am not saying I know everything on the topic but at least I know enough to see bent versions of the truth...

Anyway if anyone is interested and they should be (as this is one of the most important issues of the last 60 years or so) they should go and pick a book on the subject or at least read in a little bit more detail...
