new itunes app on Mac os x lagging with big files?

I know we have a tech thread here-so mods, please move it if you want but I posted it here because I want to know if any laymen and not super tech heads are experiencing this problem.

I know we all pretty much are used to big mp3 files for live sets and lately since upgrading to the most recent 8.1 I've had it wait with the spinning rainbow circle for almost a minute opening some bigger sets.

Notable examples here-the Felipe Callado sets from his Toika Lounge show in Toronto and the Tania Vulcano set from Aerobar in Miami this past WMC

Any thoughts fellas and felletes?

^Coencidently, I am having the same issues with Itunes. Does itunes make a second copy (ie duplicate the mp3) of the file when it imports it after it's been downloaded?

Itunes has made me have to hard shut down my mac for the same reasons. A good solution or alternative would be greatly appreciated here as well.

the default on itunes is to make a copy of the file so you should hop into your prefs to get it to stop doing that.

That should help but I've had that setting off for ages and still have the aforementioned problemo....

I've had a lot of problems with iTunes over the last couple of weeks -- seeing the beachball of death, having to do hard shutdowns because even a forece quit wouldn't close iTunes, etc. I had assumed it was a problem with my Airport Extreme (my music is all housed on a HDD attached to the AEBS), but now I'm not so sure.

Regardless, the folks at Applecare are working on my problem, expecting to hear something back from them today or tomorrow. If it's a bigger problem than something with my system, I'll post it.

I have no problem, everything working good on this side...
Just tried with the Garnier set from NYE thatŽs 9hr long and had no problem

@Florida: i think you should deleat all your files that are not in your itunes folder because itunes wont find your music anymore and youŽll have to add everything manualy again

I havent had this issue, but I haven't updated to the newest version yet. Hopefully they will have a bug fix out soon.

I have the exact same problem. I figure I'll live with the delay for now and hopefully it will get fixed in the next update.

I've noticed that the delay doesn't seem to occur with long recordings encoded with iTunes, only those from LAME etc.

It is a bit of a pain as most of the stuff Iisten to is longer than an hour.

Been dealing with this for quite some time. I have an oldschool 17" Powerbook that's about 5 or 6 years old now. I only have 1 gig of ram and thought that was the issue all along. I've just dealt with it. Everything I've upgraded in the past year or so takes up so much more memory (OSX Leopard, CS3, ect.) If any of you have a small amount of ram (gig or less) try adding to it. I'm gonna add and additional gig in my extra DIM. It also may just be a bug on the new version of Itunes, like some of you are saying.

What I meant was that if you erase your files that were copyed to your itunes folder, itunes wont find any of the items on your playlist anymore and youŽll have to add your music again manually.

Itunes has been hanging for me as well ,and it did start after the last upgrade. But not just when importing files.

Yup iTunes lags when you play/pause sets.
