"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."

The market on Jan 19 7947.08, April 23 7957.06, even. High 2008 was 13058 in June.
Are layoffs coming, yes they are. Given the greed of some companies, yes it will happen.
Big companies are in trouble. But more companies are surprising recording more profits than last year.
Yes taxes are being raised. Yep someone has to pay for other people's miss management.
Right now the value of the dollar is no better when Obama came into office. The dollar high in 2008 was 1.59, and low 1.24 (10.27.0. On Jan 19 2009 1.29 today 1.31. Since Obama, no better, no worst. Given what has happen in the market this what you would expect.
At the height of oil prices last year in July oil was trading at 147.30 a barrel. At the start of this year 33.07 a barrel, today 49.32 a barrel. The national average of gas per gallon in July was over $4 a gallon. Today $2.06. Oil prices have been dropping down way before Obama came into office, but so has the people's need for oil. Besides do you trust OPEC!
And yes Obama Apporval rating has drop from 83 to 68. Bushes final approval was 22. People still have hope but hasn't seen the changes effect their wallet yet and where big corp are getting bailout money, where's mine.
Look I'm not here to get into a pissing match. Yes unemployment is going up, the housing market is still going down. Right now from the looks of things there is a big banaide on right now that has stop some of the bleeding. Now it might just start bleeding more and then again it might not.
This is not going to be fixed overnight. Obama has been in office for 93 days and had some pretty lofting goals for his first 100 days, and he not going to meet. But do you think McCain with a Democrat majority would have done any better? He might of, but there is no way to judge that. Or do you think there is a 3rd party person that is strong enough to pull everyone together to fix this? I would love to know who so I can keep an eye on them.
The biggest problem is our party system. The Dem and the Rep have their hard set ideals that can not be broken, not even for the stake of our Country. Its my way or its no way, and that's is just fuck up. There no third party that is strong enough to take them on. We could go on and beat this into the ground and still not figure this out. Our system to broken, but its what we got.
To err is human... To correct it before anyone notices is genius.
your right. lots have changed. Now, if you work your ass off, make a lot of money or get a bonus you are evil.

only if you made it by destroying the economy (pushing ridiculous mortgages, overextending credit, repackaging securitized crap, rating crappy investments as AAA, etc.).

+1 EXACTLY.
People are quick to bitch about anyone running things when they don't see instant change while we're in the middle of freaking Great Depression 2.0 - the Lite version...come on it's not gonna happen, folks. This will take a long time to dig out of, so get used to it.
enjoy the darky? really? lmao, what a fuckin ridiculous comment
its been what 3 months? i think it's going to take at least a full term to even BEGIN to repair what the prior assholes in charge have done to this country
no one put a gun to your head and MADE you get a job in the financial industry.. I've been in my job/industry since 1997 and have really felt no effects of this recession career wise, so i guess it's all relative huh?
but, i'm sure if Obama was white, things would be A LOT netter huh? lol
mind you, though... I'm not a hugely pro-Obama. I'm pretty warily on the fence about the guy. I just think that: (1) the stakes are higher for him than for probably any president in the last quarter century (or more) and it's going to take a while to see how his huge bets play out, and (2) we'd be bitching out anyone in that office right now.
Make no mistake..things could really blow up in his face. Like every leader in every tough time, he most chart a course and take on a lot of risk. The line between success and failure is thin, and we'll have a much better sense about half way through his term as to where he stands.

Sadly, most of the assholes in charge that got us in this mess are still in the house and congress (it wasn't just the Bush administration, lame duck as it was). Obama has a huge hurdle to jump in that regard and I doubt that any current president would do any better.
“Only those who attempt the absurd...will achieve the impossible. I think...I think it's in my basement... Let me go upstairs and check.” - MC Escher
I've kept an eye to where things are going in general, but rather wait and see if the President et Al can fix this current mess, I'm busting my own ass and formulating my own action/"bailout" plan to get me to where I want to get in life.
Then if the shit really DOES hit the fan as some may project, I know I'll be in good shape to weather the big storm and not flail around barely treading water like so many others are right now...

^^ can you share the general points with us? All I've got right now is save a bunch of money, stick a bunch in gold, start learning karate, and store up a lot of bottled water.

unfortunately, most people only see the president. 90% of our nation cant even name one person in congress. I just wish they had term limits like the presidency.
