Nope. I bought the house from the guy I'm suing in 2006. He now lives in Atlanta, I think, and doesn't have anything to do with the neighborhood anymore, as far as I'm aware.

just wait and see what the fucker does ...
in this kind of cases ( in my experience ) your lawyer is trying to get the highest amount of money out of the party your suing, and hes lawyer trying to get him pay the smallest amount.
Now, if he tries to get a dismissal then thats really really fucked up

Can't do it. If he is aware that he's on this case and doesn't care, there's no way I can pull that off without coming off as a completely self-absorbed prick. If he isn't yet aware, though, bringing it up now makes it tougher for him to back off gracefully without it looking like he's bowing to my will. I'll give him a couple of days -- hopefully, I'll get a call saying, "Hey man, I was put on this case without knowing it was you. Now that I know, I've asked to be taken off the case," or something like that.

If not, though, I've got correspondence from his client acknowledging that he owes me this money, so my buddy will just ring him up and I'll have neighborhood and circle-of-friends bragging rights...

so you don't know if he's even aware or not that he's on the case? so right now you are angry about the the fact that it might be unfortunate that he was assigned to the case. i was under the impression you were pissed at him.

Well, I was, until I had some time to give it some thought, and now I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. He probably knows, but it's possible that he doesn't know -- for example, if the file just came in and his boss just put him on the case without talking to him, which wasn't uncommon back when I was an associate at a defense firm. If he doesn't know now, he probably will in the very near future, though, so I should know fairly quickly whether I have a reason to be pissed or not.

that's why I said call him....that way you know for certain and can act accordingly...not act the way you may think things are...which almost never turn out right or as is.
