having watched parts 2 and 3 again this weekend. i am still like a little kid when i see these movies, they have me wide eyed and on literally sitting on the edge of the couch everytime. peter jackson deserves so much credit for making the single most brillliant epic masterpeice. the way the action sequences are done, the scale of them, the whole scope of them. mind blowing. one thing that still has me in awe is how they seemlessly work in the those giant black dragon tghings into the battles, showing them just tearing through the troops and picking up the horses.

but what deserves more credit is the way every character in the ensemble has both a heroic and tragic part to the story. you become enguphed in the personal battles each has. wonderful.

also, the sheer billiance that came through from jackson and the designers. the worlds they created are mind blowing. every little set had its perfect imperfections, if you can understand that.

the giant city in the 3rd part looked completely real.

cheers to you mr. jackson. and your whole ensemble. 2 years later and i am still finding a new reaosn to love your films. :P

You said it exactly like I I felt watching the movies: Fantasies from my childhood becoming reality. When I was in cinema I was like all the time in my chair and really excited having goosebumps all the time because I never saw a movie that was just perfect like it is. Nothing I thought that should have done different, nothing to be added and nothing better left out. I can't remember how often I read the books when I was young. I think my friends already started to laugh about the (premature) way I behaved suddenly but I didn't care too much cause I had a very good time. :P

It?s unbelievable how much work, research and a good sense for details Peter Jackson put into his movies and I look forward for the extended edition of the last part to see the last battle of the ole evil wizard.

it really is amzing how much detail he put in it. he brought the while thing to reality.

not taking away from star wars, but this films leaves that story in the shadows IMHO. never dull, always intriuging. i cannot wait to see the directors cut.

the dramatic elements were clearly stressed and the fantasy elements just added to it ten fold.

It's pretty amazing how good a job he did adapting the most amazing books I've read in a long time! The standards were high, he never came close to dissappointment.

This is going to be a sad December, without another LOTR movie When's the Hobbit coming out!?

sad december. yes, but because i am having christmas at my house this year, i am planning on having all the kids watch parts 2 and 3 on the big screen to keep em busy. i mean there aint no way they using my xbox or ps2, they broke my last ps2 on the 4th of july. so now they get a movie.

Never quite saw the attraction of watching these films?The effects,views etc are all amazing yes,but sometimes it really does just drag on,and you know that they are going to succeed in their quest.After every film i struggled to actually remember what had happened in the previous 3+hours

If anyone hasn't read the books and intends to, there's a huge spoiler in my comments that is not covered in the movies. So with my apologies please don't read this...


Having been a huge fan of the books, I've still been quite impressed with the job that Peter Jackson had done on the movies. I just started watching the extended edition of the first part a few nights ago (I'm watching both EEs before the 3rd one is released on Tuesday) and I'm continuously impressed with the worlds he created omn screen. Special effects certainly matched what I as a reader had hoped for in a movie and the acting was superb as well (with the exception of Frodo and Sam almost coming off as a gay couple...I mean my wife just keeps cheering during their scenes "Kiss Kiss Kiss already!" ). He had kept to the books as best he could. One major criticism I had with the return of the king is that jackson had completely skipped past "The Scouring of the Shire" (this wasn't even filmed so no chance of it being in the EE). This is where the hobbits return to Hobbiton, only to find that Saruman has taken them all practically as slaves and the hobbits have to fight for themselves, led by frodo, sam, merry & pippen. Jackson films the end as if the hobbits had not a clue as to what had happened, whereas the book beautifully shows how that small group of hobbits had become strong brave leaders. The film seems to undercut the growth in strength of the entire group that had fought in the war.

Aside from this one criticism as a film they are absolutely brilliant and I don't think that anyone could top what jackson had done in terms of vision.

Can't wait for ROTK EE on Tuesday!

im still impressed everytime i watch any of the LOTR movies, of course i have all 3 on DVD and watch them from time to time, especially when i want to show my friends my hone theatre set-up

This Saturday I received my package from Amazon with the Special Edition..can't wait to watch it next weekend. 48 minutes longer than the Cinema version.

I never saw what was so great about these movies. There were great special effects no doubt, but the movies were way too long and very slow paced. I would have fell asleep during the first if it wasn't for that stupid screeching noise everytime a badguy appeared.

i gotta give it to LOTR, more story and drama to it. it definetly relied on the dramatic elements of every character having a role, even down to the king's neice killing the evil general. star wars was good too, but the story is what does it for me in LOTR. the action is obviously better in LOTR b/c of time and progress, but really is just eye candy for the movie.

It is going to be a sad December, cuz it always used to come out on my birthday (december 18th), cept for last year when it was a day early.

I read through all the books at the end of elementary school, and even though I got through them I did not really fully comprehend them. Seeing Jackson's film helped clear up some misunderstandings I had from the first reading and inspired me to re-read the trilogy. Though he slightly altered the storyline progression between the 2nd and 3rd books, it did not take away from the three films at all. All the movies are beautifully epic; Peter Jackson finally gave the trilogy the on-screen nod it deserved.

The most amazing thing is to watch all the movies jackson made BEFORE the lord of the rings. They were all B-horror movies, like "Attack of the Killer Brains"!
