well its a Bot, thats what it does, it will sit on the site and collect all the words from posts and store it in a database. Then when people search the interweb using MSN search, if the keywords match, they are redirected to the site containing the keywords

Microsoft is out spidering with their new search engine. That's definatley spider traffic. A possible reason for it's behavior is the fact that phpbb uses session IDs. Search engines see these in the URL and every time they visit a certain page, the session ID changes. This makes the spider think that the page is different, so it re-indexes, and respiders the page. This leads to hundreds if not thousands of hits per page per spider.

I know that you've run the google fix for the boards, you might consider looking around for a microsoft fix. These bots will suck your bandwidth dry if not fixed fast.

You'll also find that the people running the spiders will notice (after a while) that your page isn't spider friendly, and blacklist your domain from being spidered ever again. This is potentially bad for search engine traffic.
