Wasn't there a recording of the 911 call and there was some semi audible racist remark made by Zimmerman? I saw that report ages ago but the few articles I have been reading lately made no mention of it....maybe I haven't been watching the case closely enough.

The verdict is in as of last night, not guilty. Honestly I didn't think it was going to go any other way. There isn't enough evidence to convict him. Did he act like an asshole? Sure. We will never know how the fight actually went down, and there lies the rub. Hence the not guilty.

The verdict isn't surprising considering how fucked up the "stand your ground" defense is on it's own merit.

And if someone feels their life is in danger, I guess they should just take the abuse and hope the other party doesn't take it too far.

My take is that both Zimmerman and Trayvon in this case were at fault. The bigger issue is like Highsteppa says above, our liberal self defense / stand your ground law in FL. Thanks to the media everyone is afraid of black folk everywhere which is absurd.

The last thing they do is go after said individual and confront them.... Zimmerman looked for a fight that night, got one, and was then forced to resort to use his gun as his "only way out." Uhhh, next time, call the cops and let them do their job.

Now, if Trayvon had a bag of crack in his pocket and a wad of $100's.... slightly different story. Or if he'd had a knife, slightly different story....

Hell, I've called the cops on 3 separate occasions on suspicious individuals in my neighborhood over the past year. We've had a lot of break-ins here and I see reporting people who I think are potentially up to no good part of my responsibility as a neighbor and responsible homeowner as well as father.. I also respect strangers enough to let the professionals do their job and determine whether or not they are actual threats or not. At no time, would I follow any of the individuals I reported. at no time would I approach them with a f'ing GUN.

WHY? Common sense.

Zimmerman, IMHO looked like a suspicious asshole 2 years ago, with his shaved head and goatee.... his face IMO looked aggressive. Whether or not he is aggressive I'll never know... But I am sure Trayvon felt threatened by Zimmerman and retaliated. That's what 17 year olds do. I was a hot head when I was 17. Had some 27 year old like Zimmerman approached me, I might have gotten in their face as well.

That's funny, you're judging him based on his appearance (goatee and shaved head), while I thought you guys were against that kind of profiling (not in the case of skinheads or skinhead wannabes of course). On that point, the inadmissible evidence in the form of more recent photos shows that Trayvon was not the most upstanding of citizens (braggadocious photos where he is blowing weed at the camera or proudly posing with some firearms in hands acting the gangster).

The function of a neighborhood watch is to seek out suspicious activity. The decision George made to approach was obviously not the best one, but that didn't mean he deferred his right to self-defense because of that failure in judgement. He's been absolved by both the local PD and a jury now, but you still want to rake him over the coals for it. Perhaps the civil suits will achieve the "justice" you seek.

^Ya. If that info is true, assuming it is. Then I would absolutely see things differently than stated above . Trayvon sounds like a whacked out drug attic looking for trouble and who likes to start fights. That's not the info I was given though originally, so just based on what I did know, the picture was painted differently in my mind. I am more than happy to admit to being wrong as well. No problem with that.

What about the case over in Houston (somewhere in Texas) where the disabled guy shot (and killed??) a prostitute he met off some website, who tried to take his money without fucking him.

what was Zimm charged with ? Murder in 1st and 2nd degree right ? do you think prosecutors made a mistake by going "all in" ? instead of going for a Manslaughter charge ?

^He wasn't charged with anything, he was found not guilty.
