today i learned the terrible news that our local record store, Let It Be will be closing in a couple of months. i am so sad to hear this :cry:

has anyone else seen their favorite local shop go out of business in the past couple of years? from what i have heard this is becoming a trend as downloading mp3's and such is gaining strength and popularity over the high costs of pressing vinyl...

i guess i will have to get used to waiting a week for my records after ordering them online. oh well! i can always count on planet x

8 Ball music shop in NYC. I remember I found an old track from sasha's ibiza gu there, I loved the shop since that day, fucking pisses me off that they closed.

Ever since the record store closest to me closed down over a year ago, I just shop online for mine. They closed mainly cause the new owner ran it really bad. Still it sucked cause I used to go there after I get my nails done and it was nice to be able to listen and buy music right there.

Currently the nearest record store is an hour away and I don't want to deal with the traffic or parking over in SF or Berkeley. Plus I get physically ill from driving in heavy Bay Area traffic (NO JOKE). Actually it's cheaper for me to order records online than it does for me to drive to a record store over there. I gotta factor in not only gas but toll (3-5 bucks) and parking as well. All that alone would run me around 20 bucks at least..

Seems more and more people are going online, just because its easier in most cases..

Not to meantion cost effective for the supplier if hes just sells online. No rent for the building. etc.

We briefly had an independant store, i bought out half their stock in the closing down sale. I guess they just can't compete with the intarweb these days.

a staple of Tampa closed down just after WMC '04. Neptune Records went out of business and now I do 90% of my shopping online. That is most likely what closed them down is the online record shops. There is a shop not too far from me, and they are finally getting some decent records, it used to be all Tampa breaks and crap.

I should have known something was up with Neptune when just before WMC they had a big sale. I asked them if they were going out of business and the owner said no, just having a sale for people heading to South Beach.

Actually where I live over the last yr I have seen many good record stores close. Which sucks. The main reason I heard is b/c of best buy,media play and the internet. Yeah best buy and media play don't sell vinyl but it must of affected them some how. It sucks.

i saw 3 record stores close down here in vegas in a matter of 2 years :cry: .. i used to love going to intelligence records on thursday (new realease date) and shooting the shit with fellow djs for a few hours
