$67 million pants
A judge in DC has spun a dispute over a pair of pants that went missing from his dry cleaner into a protracted legal battle claiming a staggering $67 million in damages. He actually turned down a $12,000 offer of settlement for this single pair of pants:
As a trial attorney that normally represents plaintiffs, let me be the first to chastise this clown for wasting the time, effort and money of everyone involved in this absurd suit.Plaintiff Roy Pearson, a judge in Washington, D.C., says in court papers that he's been through the ringer over a lost pair of prized pants he wanted to wear on his first day on the bench.

wow, what a good way to have your boss notice you are a total dipshit and hopefully fire you.
no wonder why everyone is a jackass in this country and wants to sue to get some free money, even judges are doing it.Comment

Re: $67 million pants
Seriously, I ought to sue him on behalf of the entire bar for defamation for the heaping ration of shit we're all going to have to endure for the benefit of his massive ego. You know, it would be a funny story if it were just some pro se litigant filing on their own behalf. It would be embarrassing if a lawyer had taken the case and was litigating it in this fashion, and obnoxious if a lawyer was litigating this on his own behalf. For it to be a judge who is pressing this case in this manner, though, I think most of us in the plaintiff's bar want the opportunity to publicly flog him for casting our profession in such a horrible, greedy light.
We get enough bad press just waking up in the morning and I try to do what I can to rebut that notion. This doesn't help.Comment

Re: $67 million pants
Actually, it would be much better if someone that is actually respected by the populace at large and doesn't already hate trial attorneys were to get a hold of it. I'd rather see the bar do some self-policing and ostracize this guy to send the message that we're just as outraged at using the legal system for such ridiculous, selfish, and wasteful conquests.Comment
