Home Wifi help plz

comcast installed a separate modem and router in my house (old combined one was shot). The connection to the main machine is great. Faster than I am paying for.

The wifi connection for my laptop - is a secure network 16 bit encryption code. Laptop automatically connects to it - connection is strong and speed ok. After a few mins, it boots me off that network, and connects me to an unsecurred network (signal strength and speed v poor). The connection to the main computer reamins fine during these periods.

How can i stop it booting me off my secured connection?

To be sure, have you already made your home connection the default?

This could also be a firewall issue.

I assume you use a PC not a MAC laptop?

yes its a pc lapdog;
it states that its default as it loads up - but where would i check that settting plz?

All manufacturer's wireless clients are different, but many let you set it so you can't connect to anything that you haven't created a profile for. You may want to try this

To enable Windows Firewall, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
On the General tab, click On (recommended).
Click OK.
