    Smokin Jo - Turnmills - 1992

We hammered this tape back non stop for the 2 weeks before I moved away from Norwich to Leicester that summer.

I lost it during the move and it took me over 20 years to find someone with a copy, he ripped me a copy so I have uploaded it.

    Some great tunes on there.

Probably best to click on the link as it is in two parts on Soundcloud.

    Side A and Side B....

Proghouse in 1992, choice. This was the year I tuned into this phenomenon, and the vast majority that caught my ears was hardcore/breaks, so it's nice to hear the more subdued side of the coin.

Smokin Jo always had that funky sound but with a pretty hard beat, think she was one of the DJs who got the guys to really appreciate the more musical/vocal stuff, girls always liked it.

It had been just hardcore up until then with Sasha about the only one that I listened too that played more upbeat stuff, and maybe Fabio Paras, others played it, but often too soft, never that harder edge. It was rave or garage, then the house sound came and it was OK to listen to the 'soft shite'. Haha
I was still listening to Jumpin Jack Frost, Ellis Dee, Slipmatt etc. but we had started to listen to more and more 'house' by the time this came out.

I really want to try and get some Treble D tapes, David James as he was when producing, as those were as good as anything we ever heard, but unless you were in the East Anglia or London scene probably not heard of him. But his tune selection and mixing was spot on, and he was playing these sort of sounds before anyone else I really knew.
