So I went to Belize for a couple weeks and it was awesome. But now I also have severe food poisoning or some parasite in me...Have done # 2 48 times in 24 hours. My ass feels like fresh fish in a prison. I also met a Brittish fellow and I every-other word he would say to me was mate. Hey mate, what you doing mate, mate, mate, mate, mate and mate. What the hell is up with mate? I mean I guess it could be compared to dude, but seriously to use it in every sentence, is that necessary, I wanted to slap the old boy...

::: NEWSFLASH ::: People from different countries speak differently to each other.

Where I'm from use of the word mate and the concept of mateship is an important part of who we are. There was even a push by our PM a few years ago to rewrite the preamble to the constitution to include these concepts of mateship.

I'm one of those people who use mate 99% of the time when I'm addressing people, it's who I am. Hell, even my mum gets called mate by me and vice versa.

I went to belize in the 8th grade for 10 days and had a blast, food was great and didn't experience any sickness, nothing but good vibes. While the country is poor its nowhere near a third world country, third world country = sudan, ethiopia, iraq, congo, etc. belize is just strugglin a little bit, but not third world.
