Pushing back aggressively against charges of lax or hasty vetting, the McCain campaign disclosed Tuesday that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was one of six finalists for running mate who filled out a 70-question form that included detailed personal, professional and financial probing.

    ...
Let me see if I've got this straight. Consider all that has come out about Palin in the few days since she was announced as the VP. Do you honestly think that McCain's campaign, knowing all of that, let her be announced and just have that shit hit the fan on its own?

In politics, you either control the message, or the message controls you. From Friday through yesterday, the scandals drove the story and McCain was on defense the entire time. No way does any serious candidate let that sort of thing come out on its own, without the benefit of their own spin. Either McCain's camp didn't know about it, or they did and didn't do anything about it, which is equally unforgivable from a political horse race standpoint. Palin has been put through the ringer over the last few days and McCain has looked like an idiot, and there's no way that McCain allowed that to happen with his eyes wide open. No way.

Maybe this doesn't have anything to do with the way that he would govern (although I think it shows alarmingly bad judgment), but from a political standpoint, it made McCain look like an utter moron.

fantastic, apparently vetting is dwindled down to a yes-no questionaire. Unfortunately, political issues are grounded in the philosophy you have on politics, liberty, economics, property, etc...

there is a HUMONGOUS difference between a cosmo-questionnaire and articulating your viewpoints on serious issues.

the article you posted merely shows that all McCain wanted to do was find somone with little 'problems' of past, and was not interested in extracting concise and lucid beliefs as to what she stands for. Which is ultimately boiled down to, "God wants Alaska to have a pipeline and the US to win in Iraq".

Of course, we've heard this bullshit from televangelists before, so it's probably better that they left it to a questionnaire.
